Home again, home again...

We've been home since Friday evening with our new little baby, and we couldn't be happier! Abbey is doing great, and behaving exactly the way everyone said she would- sleeping, eating, and...well, you know. The first couple of 3 AM feedings were a bit of a shock, but we sure love the way she sleeps in until about 10 or 11 every morning! That was a nice surprise!

I'm healing up nicely, and I couldn't do any of this without Chris home with me. He's only been a daddy for three days now, and you'd think he has been doing this for 20 years! Abbey and I are constantly on our best behavior, so he'll want to keep being such a good helper :)

Here are a few pictures that haven't made it up yet. Thank you so much to everyone for your visits, prayers, kind words, and gifts. We appreciate every bit of it! For those who haven' t gotten to meet Abbey yet, give us a call! She loves meeting new people!

Abigail Hope Jackson!

She was born at 1:53 AM, after nearly 17 hours of labor, weighing in at a solid 8 lbs 1 oz at 20 3/4 inches long. Everyone involved is recuperating this morning, Abbey had her first meal around 7:30am and is now sleeping like a log. The cutest log you've ever seen. Thanks to everyone for your support and prayers.

We'd love visitors this afternoon, please call me (Chris) on my mobile to make sure it's a good time. My mom and Monica's will also be able to provide information, as well as Candice Kain. Check out more pics below!

This has been a long day

And I'm not even the one hooked up to drugs that turn your abdomen into an angry, soulless monster. Monica's been heroic today since 8am, and after 12 hours we're still going.

So as not to go into too much detail, we'll call us 70% there.

Status:
Monica - Induced, epidural-ed, re-epidural-ed, pinched, poked, I owe her a Coke. Not doing this again any time soon.

Abbey - Squished, squeezed, and probably looking forward to getting a little more headroom

Parents - Proud and respectfully impatient, with knowing smiles that portray anxious excitement. The waiting room hums with quiet energy. A first grandchild is moments away.

Me - Busy and dutiful, and am I really going to be a father?

More info as it comes.

Still no baby...

Well, I'm three days past my due date, and still no baby! Besides the uncontrollable PUPPP rash that I've developed, and the sleeplessness due to it AND being gigantic, there's something that bothers me. Strangers not minding their business!! You would think that I had gotten used to this by now, since, unquestionably, the most intrusive stranger was interrogating me at only 17 weeks ("Are you going to deliver vaginally? Do you know the conception date? Are you going to get an epidural?"), but I still have not gotten over the brazenness of some people! The lady mentioned above was our waitress at a coffee shop in Salado, by the way. OUR WAITRESS. So, with every glass-fill and status check came a barrage of inappropriate questioning. The questions subsided for a little while, and were replaced by tons of unsolicited advice from people, but now, we're back to the questions!

Just the other day, I was standing in line with Mom at Ulta, and the lady in front of us turned around and said, "Is this your first one?" I answered yes, she is. "When are you due?" she queried. "Any time now," I answered back, with a tight smile. "Is that why you're out with Mom?" she asked. "...Um...yes." What? It was then, that I realized she thought I was an unmarried teen!! I know I look young, and I know I'm retaining too much water to wear my actual wedding ring, but I had a ring on my left hand, for crying out loud! I could have been rude and answered, "No. I'm out with Mom because we had some shopping to do. My husband of 2 and a half years, whom I've been best friends with for the past 7 years, is at home with my one carat diamond solitaire wedding ring, which is set in platinum. And I'm 25 years old." Instead, I laughed it off and typed this blog for you to enjoy :)

I'm so ready to have this baby!

PROGRESS!!

I had my 40 week appointment on Tuesday, and good news- I'm dilated two centimeters!! Hopefully, I'll go into labor naturally, but if not, the doctor was talking about induction on the 20th or 21st of September. All this waiting around for the baby is getting frustrating! My due date is tomorrow, and I know that basically means nothing, but to us, it's meant that September 14 is when we'd have a baby BY. Oh, well...tomorrow isn't here yet, so there's still a small chance she could arrive between now and then! Keep 'em crossed, and we'll keep you posted!

No progress

After the appointment today, we learned that this baby is in NO WAY ready to come out! I'm so far away from progression that I'm not even able to be induced. It's depressing. I'm going back on Tuesday to see if there have been any changes, and if not, we may try induction anyway. My regular doctor is out of town next week, so I'm seeing a third doctor (my first is on maternity leave), who is more open to induction than my current doctor. The good news is, I won't have her past the 21st of September. Dr. Norwood said he won't let me be pregnant for more than a week past my due date!

Keep your fingers crossed and your phones nearby.

Week 39

Well, it's been 39 weeks of pregnancy, and still no sign of baby! I have, hopefully, my last doctor's appointment this afternoon, and maybe he'll tell me otherwise...

We've gotten the nursery finished, and now, all we're waiting on is the rocking chair, so there are one or two perks to Abbey not coming early! We get stuff done!! Here are a few pictures.

Right now, we're sitting and waiting for our baby to make her appearance, but it seems she takes after both of us. She'll probably be about 20 minutes late! I guess that means she'll arrive on the 15th at 12:20 AM, but I hope she'll prove me wrong. Chris and I were both a week and a half to two weeks late, but maybe she'll want to get this show on the road. We're certainly ready to meet her!
