We're having a...

BOY!!!!

Today, was quite the day... Before I met Chris at the hospital today (where my doctor's office is), I met my Bible study girls at Panera for lunch. Around 12:15, Abbey starting acting like she did NOT want to be there anymore, so I resigned myself to getting to the doctor's an hour early. I packed our stuff up, got in the car, and headed to Baylor, a little frustrated that I was going to get there around 12:30, when my appointment wasn't until 1:30. Oh well... things could be worse, right? Wait for it...

I parked the car in the garage across from the Maternity ward, turned off the car, tossed my keys into my purse in the passenger seat, opened the door to get out, hit the lock button, got out of the car, and slammed the door. You guessed it. Keys. Phone. BABY. Locked in. Expletive. Thank the Good Lord in Heaven above that some sweet sweet girl was getting out of her car at the same time that I was two seconds locked out of mine. I yelled frantically to her, "Ma'am??? IneedtouseyourphoneIjustlockedmykeysandmybabyinthecar!!!!" She fished her phone out, set down the teddy bear and vase of roses she was carrying, and stayed with me while I spoke to the 911 operator.

Meanwhile, I'm sobbing on the phone, telling him where I am, talking to a crying, sweaty Abbey through the window, and listening for sirens all at the same time. She was locked in for about 10 minutes before the firemen (and one firelady) finally found us. One of them calmed me down, assured me I did the right thing by calling 911, and told me she was absolutely fine since I parked in the garage, and she was only in there 10 minutes while another broke a small window to get in. That, of course, freaked Abbey out even more. When I got in to unbuckle her (and kiss her and squeeze her and cry on her and apologize to her), I saw that she had tossed her blanket, Elmo, and her shoes in order to cool off. Smart girl.

I finally got her in her stroller, drinking water, and saying "bye bye" to the firemen (which they thought was adorable), and I started to feel better. It just so happened that the doctor who delivered Abbey (Dr. Rachel Kurian) was getting on the elevator at the same time as me! That's when I lost it again. She was SO sweet, and looked Abbey over, asked me some questions, and assured me Abbey would be fine.

Despite all of that, we're thrilled to be having a baby boy, and to already have a (despite my carelessness this afternoon) healthy, beautiful baby girl! World's worst mother of the day, signing off...

Congrats on the boy!!! That is so exciting!

Poor thing, I can't imagine what a day you had. I am glad that everything was okay. Finding out you were having a boy probably turned your not so good day into a better one :).

And don't beat yourself up! It could happen to anybody! We're all so buys and have a million things going on in our minds all at the same time!

Boy!!! YEA!! Congrats!!

Don't stress yourself out over locking your keys in the car. It could happen to any of us. Luckily your situation turned out great (seeing the lady, were in a parking garage...) and this is a helpful reminder to all of us.

I need to program the code on my door to something I can remember. Aaron knows the code and I have always told myself I would call him if I locked myself out, but thanks to your story I now realize I may not have my cell phone!

I was reading this and talking to my Mom and told her what I was reading. She locked me in the car at Montgomery Wards during heat like this when she was pregnant with my sister. I was like 3. They tried and tried to get me to open the door but I just laughed at them! Anyway the police came and helped her. At least you were level headed enough to call 911 and not totally panic and freeze! Congrats on the Baby boy! How exciting!
